Some news abou central area of Rome

Historical Centre

The centre of Rome extends over a vast part of the city, and most of the city monuments and museums are found in this area.

The areas that are closest to the most famous monuments or piazzas are always visited, as much as by day than by night. It’s an excellent choice if you think that you will not need a car, because it is very difficult to find parking in the centre of Rome, the few paid parking spots that do exist are almost always full.

Stores such as supermarkets, alimentari’s and pharmacies tend to raise their prices within these areas, and they are certainly not cheap. Even tourist attractions are more expensive and often the building are so old that they don’t offer simple, everyday commodities, such as an elevator.

The most beautiful and animated piazza’s are: Piazza di Spagna, the Trevi Fontain, Piazza Navona, Piazza della Rotonda (Pantheon) and Campo De' Fiori.

Trastevere

Trastevere is one of the most distinctive, characteristic areas of Rome. The winding of the streets, piazza’s and “vicoli” makes it have a bright atmosphere. The quality of restaurants render the neighbourhood pleasant, as much during the day than at night. The true historical centre is of very little walking distance from Trastevere and can be reached by either the bus or the tram.

Gianicolo is found above Trastevere, and Monteverde area begins here and it is where you can admire the most beautiful view of Rome. A wonderful choice for those who would like to pass a romantic evening in Rome. Finding parking in Trastevere is not impossible, but is all paid parking.

Saint Peter’s – Prati – Borgo Pio

The Vatican Basilica is found slightly outside of the historical centre and borders the area of Prati, one of the most pleasant and well-served areas of the city. This area offers a relaxing, enjoyable vacation, especially since it is well-connected with either buses, trams or the metro.

The area is rich with restaurants, pubs, and stores that are frequently visited.

Parking, which is almost always paid parking, is not as impossible to find as in the centre.

The zone of Borgo Pio is very interesting, and traffic here is not allowed, it is the area along side the Basilica.

Gregorio VII

Via Gregorio VII is right next to the Vatican, it is much calmer than the Prati area but at the same time it is well-connected with other areas of Rome.

Balduina

It is an area very close to the Vatican, built in the 1950’s and is architecture very modern.

San Giovanni

The Basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano is connected to the suburbs of the historical centre. The area, noted from an archaeological point of view, is less visited by tourists. The structure of most buildings is less distinctive than the buildings in the centre, the area is modern and traces back to the last century.

Piazza Re di Roma is very much visited, along with Via Appia Nuova and Via Sannio, where you can find many shops and stores for shopping. Normally the prices are lower than in the centre, and for who will have a car can find paid parking a bit easier than in the centre. A visit to the archaeological area on Via Appia and to the Aqueduct park would be extremely interesting.

You can observe the reactions of artists and authors have experience these last few centuries, while renting an apartment or choosing to stay in a Bed and Breakfast.

This type of hospitality is usually run by private families, where people give up one or two rooms in their apartment, making you feel part of their family, they can give you information regarding places to visit and where to eat at low prices. For the past few years this type of accommodation has been expanding in Italy, especially since the price is very economical.

There are already a few hundred families who have left their own homes open, offering clean towels and sheets, including soap. The rooms are clean and breakfast is prepared fresh every morning. It is an interesting way of accommodating yourself, where you can meet different people from different cultures, you can deepen your knowledge of the culture, language and food, and where you can feel comfortable (which usually doesn’t occur in at other places).
